Armada

I wanted to improve my lettering skills with a side project, and eventually decided on an illustration series that focused on each state in the US. For a challenge, I set a constraint of only using the interior space of the state outlines, a challenge that nearly got the best of me on some of the weirder shapes (New Jersey, Florida.. I'm looking at you). The focus was on keeping similar letter-weights, spacing and padding throughout the series.

People started asking for prints of the work, so I eventually morphed this little side-project into a side-business. It's been a great way to craft something tangible, something you don't get to do often as a digital designer.
